A generic term for all types of roof tiles which serve a special purpose. These tiles include: sleeve tiles *tonemaru gawara —˜ͺŠΫŠ’; tiles extending beyond the bargeboards at right angle to the sleeve tiles, i.e. hanging tiles kakegawara Š|Š’; gap-filing tiles *mendogawara –ΚŒΛŠ’; ogre-faced tiles *onigawara ‹SŠ’; bird-peech tiles *toribusuma ’ΉεΞ; coping tiles *fusumagawara •šŠΤŠ’; stacked ridge tiles *noshigawara ΰ‘“lŠ’; and tiles that cover the joints made by sleeve tile end *tomebutagawara —―ŠWŠ’. The broad, concave tiles *hiragawara •½Š’ and the semi-circular, convex cover tiles *marugawara ŠΫŠ’ that form the basis for many tiled roofs are not included as yakugawara.
