Lit. flowing water style of pond and stream.
A type of water feature in a garden that includes a curving water course. The word nagare —¬, the alternate reading of —¬ ryuu (flow), is often used to describe the serpentine streams in Japanese gardens of all periods and styles. For instance, the 11c garden manual *SAKUTEIKI ì’ë‹L, described the curving stream in shinden style gardens *shinden-zukuri teien Q“a‘¢’뉀, as "resembling the track left by a crawling serpent."
