head in a topknot. The same meaning as *houkei 
σι where the character σ hou is used as an respectful prefix. However 
in practice it appears that motodori is used more widely than houkei to refer to 
all hairstyles found on Buddhist figures ; rakei ι (snail hair), suikei 
ι (hanging hair), *soukei 
oι (double chignon) etc., and to features of the head like the *nikkei 
χι (protuberance on head).  |
