Also read motodori. Hair tied on top of the head in a topknot. The same meaning as *houkei •σιŸ where the character •σ hou is used as an respectful prefix. However in practice it appears that motodori is used more widely than houkei to refer to all hairstyles found on Buddhist figures ; rakei —†ιŸ (snail hair), suikei ‚ιŸ (hanging hair), *soukei ‘oιŸ (double chignon) etc., and to features of the head like the *nikkei “χιŸ (protuberance on head).
