      in turn support the ridge purlin in thatched vernacular houses *minka –¯‰Æ.  2@In minka with hipped roofs *yosemune yane Šñ“‰®ª in Chiba prefecture, the short beams that span from the eaves purlin *gagyou ŠÛŒ…, at the end of the roof to the main transverse beam *koyabari ¬‰®—À. These beams run parallel to the ridge and form a base for roof struts koyazuka ¬‰®‘©, to support other beams. Also called *tobibari ”ò—À.  |
