Lit. flowers at the crossing dyeing. A Muromachi period hybrid, decorative textile technique of combining tie-dyeing and hand-painting that became popular with Momoyama period elites. It uses stitched tie-dyeing combined with ink painting kaki-e 描絵, gold or silver leaf imprint embellishments *haku 箔, and embroidery on silk nui 縫. The early 17c decline of tsujigahana, based on its extreme complexity, led to the development of the all-over fawn-spot tie-dye, or kanoko 鹿の子 form of *shiborizome 絞染.
