A plain, single-petaled, stylized lotus pattern found on the pendant *gatou 瓦当, of semi-circular, convex eave-end tiles *nokimarugawara 軒丸瓦, during the Asuka period, especially the first half of the 7c. The number of petals varied from six to eleven. The tips of the petals are often arrowed and are often rolled back on themselves ending in a point or, have only raised dots. Some of the petals have a ridge down the center, containing five or more bead-forms representing lotus seeds. Rims are usually simple and undecorated. Examples have been unearthed in Nara at a great number of sites of existing temples and at the ruins of temples, as well as at sites in out lying areas. This type of decoration is derived from patterns found on semi-circular, convex eave-end pendant tiles from the Korean kingdoms of Paekche (Jp: *Kudara 百済) and Koguryo (Jp: *Koukuri 高句羅).
