lotus leaf strut. Also read kashouzuka. Commonly called *nigirihasu 握蓮. An elongated, inverted lotus-shaped cap *gyakuren 逆蓮 positioned on the struts to which rails are attached forming a balustrade

Zen style architecture *zenshuuyou 禅宗様. The top rail *hokogi 架木 is very thin and received its name because it is thought to resemble
a mopstick. Example: Engakuji *Shariden 円覚寺舎利殿 in Kanagawa prefecture. |
