Also written ’n•Ξ. A long horizontal base stone, sometimes called a sleeper, or a continuous plinth course. It is placed at the base of the podium *danjouzumi ’dγΟ upon which temple and some shrine buildings are built. The jifuku-ishi carry the vertical stone panels *hame-ishi ‰H–ڐΠand stone struts *tsuka-ishi ‘©Ξ, that enclose the dirt and rubble mound that forms the core of the podium.
