Furring strips made of thin wooden or bamboo that are nailed horizontally
to posts to form the base for vertical boards or bamboo. b.) A fence made of brushwood bundles, logs or several layers of bamboo tied to vertical furring strips, thin wooden lath. This method is used for large fences *oogaki 大垣 or side fences *sodegaki 袖垣. 2 To make a wooden wall, furring strips are nailed vertically and horizontally between posts or set into pillars using a tenon *hozo ほぞ and mortise *hozo-ana ほぞ穴 to make a firm level surface on which to nail wall boards. |
