utsushi　写し

A copy or a facsimile. The term refers not only to copies of calligraphy or painting but also reproductions of ceramics. In tea utensils, there are many domestic replicas of popular and rare foreign goods such as Koguryo teabowls (Kourai utsushi 高麗写し), Dutch ware (Oranda utsushi オランダ写し) and Tonkinese wares (Kouchi utsushi 交趾写し). From the late Edo period, the word was also used in regard to style, for instance to denote Ninsei utsushi 仁清写し(Ninsei style), or Kenzan utsushi 乾山 (Kenzan style) wares.
