A copy or a facsimile. The term refers not only
to copies of calligraphy or painting but also reproductions of ceramics. In tea
utensils, there are many domestic replicas of popular and rare foreign goods such
as Koguryo teabowls (Kourai utsushi ‚—íŽÊ‚µ), Dutch ware (Oranda utsushi
ƒIƒ‰ƒ“ƒ_ŽÊ‚µ) and Tonkinese wares (Kouchi utsushi ŒðæäŽÊ‚µ). From the late Edo period,
the word was also used in regard to style, for instance to denote Ninsei utsushi
m´ŽÊ‚µ(Ninsei style), or Kenzan utsushi Š£ŽR (Kenzan style) wares. |
