Currents of Thought on Ukiyo-e, a series of biographies of *ukiyo-e •‚¢ŠG artists compiled and revised by a number of scholars in the late 18c and 19c. Although the most important reference work relating to ukiyo-e artists, the original text is not extant. Around 1789 (Kansei Š°­ 1) Oota Nanpo ‘å“c“ì¤ (Shokusanjin 冎Rl; 1749-1823) edited the original text, and in 1800 (Kansei 12) Sasaya Kuninori ù‰®–M‹³ ( ? - ? ) added an appendix titled YAMATO UKIYO-E NO SHIKEI ‘å˜a•‚¢ŠG‚ÌŽnŒn (The Early Lineage of Japanese Ukiyo-e). In 1802 (Kyouwa ‹˜a 2) Santou Kyouden ŽR“Œ‹ž“` (1761-1816) amended the text. In 1818 (Bunsei •¶­ 1) Shikitei Sanba Ž®’àŽO”n (1776-1822) made further revisions, while in 1833 (Tenpou “V•Û 4) Keisai Eisen ŒkÖ‰pò (1790-1848) added his own research to the work, calling the version MUMEIOU ZUIHITSU Ù–¼‰¥•M (Miscellany of the Old Man with No Name) or alternatively ZOKU UKIYO-E RUIKOU ‘±•‚¢ŠG—Þl (Supplement to UKIYO-E RUIKOU). In 1844 (Kouka O‰» 1) Saitou Gesshin Ä“¡ŒŽ›¨ (1804-78) appended more information to make ZOUHO UKIYO-E RUIKOU ‘•â•‚¢ŠG—Þl (Supplement to UKIYO-E RUIKOU). Finally, in 1868 (Keiou Œc‰ž 4) Tatsutaya Shuukin —³“cŽÉH‹Ñ ( ? - ? ) added still more material to create SHIN ZOUHO UKIYO-E RUIKOU V‘•â•‚¢ŠG—Þl (New Supplement to UKIYO-E RUIKOU).
