tsukejiro 付城

1 A fortification built as a staging camp from which to attack an enemy's castle. It is usually small in scale, with only one or two enclosures, and often with an earthen embankment and a moat. Also called a confronting castle, *tai-no-shiro 対の城, or a facing castle, mukaijiro 向城.

2 A branch castle or fortification, *shijou 支城, separate from the main castle and built at stategic locations within the domain and along its borders.
