In Edo in the 18-19c, the space beneath the *hisashi ›ù of *machiya ’¬‰Æ was rented, and other spaces, such as the abutments of bridges were used, as well as areas in Asakusa ó‘ and Edobashi Hirokouji ]ŒË‹´L¬˜H. Some of the stalls were movable, yataimise ‰®‘ä“X, and a few were plastered externally, nuriya-zukuri “h‰®‘¢. They sold items such as cakes and woven grass sandals. The stallholder's home base was known as a hikaemise T‚¦“X. | ||||||
