Also dainaisha 第内社. A shrine within the estate
or premises, teinai 邸内, of a nobleman. The mansion, teitaku 邸宅,
or yashiki 邸, is the nobleman's dwelling. The term teinaisha also
refers to a shrine placed within the homes of ordinary people. It is believed
that the household gods live in these shrines and the residents offer food and
pray before the shrines. Usually the head of the family prays audibly with the
rest of the family bowing their heads and listening. This ritual usually takes
place early in the morning before breakfast. |
