tsukidomemizo 突止溝
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms

The track grooves on a head jamb *kamoi 鴨居, and sill *shikii 敷居, for sliding doors that do not run the full length of the track. For example, if a 360cm long track has four grooves, only one groove will be full length. The others will extend only 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4 the length, and are called tsukidomemizo. This arrangement still exists in the Imanishi 今西 residence built in 1650, in Nara.
