Lit. Tanba stone. A type of granite from the Kameoka Tͺ region, northwest of Kyoto. High in iron, it is used for pavements *shiki-ishi ~Ξ, stepping stones *tobi-ishi ςΞ, and shoe-removing stones *kutsunugi-ishi BEΞ. Tanba-ishi also refers to a type of andesite frequently used for paving. Also called tanba teppeiseki OgS½Ξ. | ||||||
