KEY WORD : art history / paintings
Also written 勝南院座, 小南院座, 少波座. One of the painting studios or guilds (za 座) of the *nanto-edokoro 南都絵所 connected to the Ichijouin 一乗院 of Koufukuji 興福寺 in Nara. The studio was thought to have been founded by Sonchi 尊智 (active first half of 13c) and many of its artists use the character "son 尊" in their names, such as Myouson 命尊 in the Nanbokuchou period, Sonchuu 尊忠 and Sonjun 尊順 of the Muromachi period. Important paintings by this studio include the 1323 "Shoutoku Taishi eden 聖徳太子絵伝" (Shitennouji 四天王寺) which is signed "Edokoro Nanto Shounamiza Tootoumi Hokkyou 絵所南都勝南座遠江法橋" on the back. Around the late 15c-early 16c, studio moved from the Ichijouin to the Daijouin 大乗院 at Koufukuji.
