sute-ishi　捨石

Lit. "discarded stone." One of the "seven trump stones" (*nanatsu-ishi 七つ石) placed in the *roji 露地 or tea garden. A natural stone, it is set in a seemingly random way to add scenery. Thus it is placed at a focal point or to the side of the garden path.
