suiharagami 杉原紙

Also read sugiharagami and abbreviated to suihara or sui. Handmade paper *washi 和紙 produced in Suihara 杉原 Valley in Harima 播磨 (now Hyougo prefecture). A fine, pliable paper made from mulberry fibres (see *choshi 楮紙) which is thinner than *housho 奉書. Widely used from the end of Heian period (12c) until the Edo period (19c) by samurai 侍 families as gifts, and for official documents.
