1 A
term referring to the arrangement of the utensils employed during a tea
ceremony. Specifically, sumichigai means utensils that are set out
on the diagonal as opposed to an arrangement based on imaginary lines intersecting
at 90゜angles. It is thought that Kobori Enshuu 小堀遠州 (1579-1647) was particularly
fond of this arrangement.
2 Buildings or streets which are placed on a diagonal axis in contrast
to a grid pattern. |
