Buildings roofed with cedar bark shingles which resemble cypress bark roofing *hiwadabuki •O”畘. Cedar shingles are used on the roofs of tea ceremony houses *chashitsu ’ƒŽº, buildings in the so-called rustic style *sukiya-zukuri ”Šñ‰®‘¢, and on garden gates. Occasionally, they are found on the roofs of folk dwellings. Sometimes a tiled roof is given a special effect by using cedar shingles over the eaves. This is done in the Kansai region and considered very elegant.
