sougamae　総構

Also termed sougawa 総河, sometimes written 総側 or 総川, souguruwa 総郭, 総曲輪. The enclosure that surrounds a town below a castle *joukamachi 城下町. this includes the earthen embankment, the stone wall, and the moat. When a castle has more than one surrounding enclosure, sougamae refers to the outermost one.
