Also kijizou 素地像. A wooden statue with a natural wood surface. Shirakizou may be a Buddhist or Shinto image. It is finished without paint or lacquer, except for some colour used on the facial features. A natural wood surface is often found on sandalwood statues *danzou 檀像 and *natabori 鉈彫 (statues with unsmoothed chisel marks). | ||||||
