shakei 莎髻

Also shake. A style of topknot *houkei 宝髻, in the shape of a flower, found on *Fudou Myouou 不動明王 images. The shakei is part of the kenpatsu 巻髪 hairstyle, where most of the hair is cut in short curls *rahotsu 螺髪, with a long pony-tail *benpatsu 弁髪, hanging down in front of the left ear. A central patch of hair on top of the head is left longer. This is tied once at the base of the neck, then separated into four bunches, and tied at the tips to form a flower shape.
