Also 扠首棹. The diagonal braces used to form the triangular frame in many gable pediments *tsuma 妻, and on top of transverse-beams to support the ridge in temples, shrines and folk dwellings. Bracket complexes *tokyou 斗きょう are usually set over the peak of the triangular frame.
