sasarako jitami 簓子下見

Also called sasarako bame 簓子羽目. A traditional type of weather board used to cover exterior walls. The overlapping siding is applied horizontally to the framework with battens called sasarako 簓子 notched into the back. The battens allow the siding to fit against the framework snuggly and are placed vertically about 30cm apart. The notches are called hakizami 羽刻. When sasarako jitami and battens are used for fencing, the fence is called sasarakobei 簓子塀.
