saku-itabei 柵板塀 | ||||||
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms
A fence supported by posts along its rear side, usually with more than four posts per one bay. The facing boards are placed horizontally. One variation reverses this construction pattern such that horizontal boards attached to the rear of the fence support the vertical stakes or pickets along the front side. Stakes or pickets are called saku-ita 柵板 or sakuko 柵子.
