A type of halo *kouhai Œυ”w used on Buddhist images, forming a free-standing ring around the head. Some rinkou consist of a single undecorated ring, seen for example on the Kichijouten ryuuzou ‹gΛ“V—§‘œ (1212) in Joururiji ς—Ϊ—žŽ›, Kyoto. Others are decorated with jewels, miniature Buddha figures *kebutsu ‰»•§, or radiating spokes (see *houshagata kouhai •ϊŽΛŒ`Œυ”w). A halo formed by two concentric rings joined by a decorated band is called nijuu rinkou “ρd—ΦŒυ.
