Also called *ransekizumi 乱石積, waraizumi 笑い積. Randonly piled natural stones *no-ishi 野石, of the type commonly found in river beds or hillsides. Such stones varied greatly in size and shape and were commonly utilized for podii in the 7c. Excavated examples have been found at Asukadera Saikondou 飛鳥寺西金堂 in Nara. In the following centuries natural stones also were piled at random at provincial temples. | ||||||
