Also masugami otoko \¡”¯’j. Noh masks *noumen ”\–Ê of male spirit or god. A *mikazuki ŽO“úŒŽ derivative, it has gaunt features with thin skin tightly pulled over broad cheekbones and pointed chin, but the overall expression is more stunned than mikazuki: the round metallic eyes stare wildly, the loose hair falls thinly over the forehead, the eyebrows swerve in a broad arch over the eye socket bones and the nostrils flare open. Particularly unusual are the widely spaced teeth bared by a tight smile and tinted gold. Masugami otoko is generally used for thwarted lovers, such as appear in NISHIKIGI ‹Ñ–Ø (Brocade Tree), FUNABASHI ‘D‹´ (The Floating Bridge) or MATSUMUSHI ¼’Ž(Pine Cricket). | ||||||
