A pattern drawn on a wall on both sides of a type of post called *kentozuka 間斗束. The pattern is known to have existed since the Nara period (late 7-8c). The earliest extant examples date from the early Kamakura period (1185-1294), as for example those found in Houkaiji Amidadou 法界寺阿弥陀堂, Kyoto. | ||||||
