ochi-ishi　落石

Also pronounced otoshi-ishi. Lit. falling stone. One of the trump stones *yaku-ishi 役石 in front of the crawl door *nijiriguchi 躙口 entrance to the tea hut *chashitsu 茶室. It is also called the second stone *niban-ishi 二番石 because it follows the *fumi-ishi 踏石, placed first outside the chashitsu, and in front of the *nori-ishi 乗石. According to the SEKISHUURYUUDENSHO 石州流伝書, the ochi-ishi is placed between the fumi-ishi and the nori-ishi, but is usually about 3cm lower than the fumi-ishi and about 3cm higher than the nori-ishi.
