nobe 延 | ||||||
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms | ||||||
1 In a general sense nobe means the entire
length of any timber used in construction. 2 Specifically, it refers to the ratio of the base of a triangle to the length of the hypotenuse, shahen 斜辺. Taking a base of 30.3 cm (10 sun 寸) and erecting a perpendicular line of 3 sun at one end, the hypotenuse will be the square root √2 or 3.03 + cm (1.414 sun) longer than the base. Where the hypotenuse and base meet a 45 degree angle is formed. See *hainobe 配延. 3 Nobe or nobesun 延寸 also refer to the allowance on a length of timber that is slightly greater that the measurement needed to avoid making the timber too short. 4 Nobe is an expression used for the ratio of the width of a horizontal member to the width of a post. See *hainobe 配延. |
