KEY WORD : architecture / roofing tiles

A small edge raised slightly to the left of the right edge an eave-end tile *kake karakusagawara 掛唐草瓦 to facilitate the run-off of rainwater and prevent breakage. It extends inward just a little so that it can join the raised edge on the right side of the second broad, concave tile *ninohiragawara 二の平瓦. The edge on this tile runs nearly to the back end of the tile and continues at a 90゚ angle around the corner, clearing the nail hole at the right rear and ending before it reaches the nail hole on the left rear. These edges cannot be seen from the outside because the semi-cylindrical eave-end tile covers them.
