A generic name for the ornaments added to the ridge of a thatched or wooden roof to protect the roof-ridge, and to symbolize the social status of the inhabitants. There are two main types: ornaments made from forked or crossed timbers; or ornaments made from a bunch of grasses known as *kaya covering the seams of the ridge capping, *munazutsumi ο, or made by covering the whole ridge with rough bamboo or reed matting, su βΕ, and tree bark. Depending on the region, the first type are also known as karasu G, karasuodoshi G¨Η΅, *karasudomari G~άθ, *karasuodori Gxθ, *karasutobi GΞ, suzumedomari ~άθ, suzumeodoshi ¨Η΅, *suzumeodori xθ, ondori ¨ρΗθ, kura Ζ, kuragi ΖΨ, kurahone ΖΩΛ, kurakake Ζ|, nikura ΧΖ, matagi Ψ, osae ¦, uma n, umanomata nΜ, umanori nζθ, kigire Ψ¬κ, tsumegi ΒίΨ, or hotegi ΩΔΨ; and the second type are known as mewara m, hote ΩΔ, bote ΪΔ, sabote ³ΪΔ, kako ©± or suboke ·Ϊ―. | ||||||
