kobari　小梁

Also koutsubari or kou-otsubari 甲乙梁. A smaller beam used in conjunction with a large one, oobari 大梁. It is used especially for a small timber positioned at a right angle to a floor joist. Kobari act as binders to strengthen the joists and support the floor boards.
