Also called tokomaedatami °‘Oō. Lit. a nobleman's tatami. A straw mat *tatami ō, which was placed exactly in front of the alcove *tokonoma °‚ĢŠŌ, in a tea ceremony room *chashitsu ’ƒŽŗ. Usually it was reserved for noblemen or dignitaries. Guests of honor who were neither nobleman nor dignitaries were not supposed to use this seat. Example: Housensai eā£Ö at Urasenke — ē‰Ę in Kyoto.
