板持. 1 A type of fascia board. A thick board attached to the rafter ends of a plank roofed vernacular house using wooden pegs, kisen 木栓 or metal hooks to protect the crosscut rafter ends from weathering. Used primarily in northern Japan to secure roofing during gales. 2 A term used for crossed boards on the ridge or ridge ends, like *chigi 千木 on shrine buildings. 3 A term used for bargeboard *hafu 破風, on Sado island, Niigata prefecture. |
