A decorative type of thatch made from cogon, umikaya
海茅, a tall, coarse grass growing along the coastal regions of Chiba and Ibaraki
prefecture. Some of the grasses are thick, while others are thin. Kazaribuki
is formed when cogon is combined with bleached rice straw, black-dyed wheat straw,
bamboo grass dyed white, old cogon grass with a sooty appearance, and even cedar
bark. |
