A ceremony to celebrate the completion of a tiled roof in the area of Oita City, Oita prefecture. The senior craftsman, sakan no touryou 左官の棟梁, mounts the ridge of the roof and makes an offering of food and sake to the gods. Then, from the end of the ridge he throws large pieces of pounded rice cake, mochi 餅, down to the master of the house and his family. Today, such ceremonies are still carried out.
