kataorido 片折戸 | ||||||
KEY WORD : architecture / general terms | ||||||
A folding door that is hinged to a single gate post.
When the leaf attached to the gate post is pulled closed, the folding leaf can
turn back to back on the attached leaf, leaving the gate half opened. When the
gate is entirely closed the folding leaf swings around to form a 180 degree angle.
A side gate can have two folding doors, in which case one is hinged to the left
post, the other to the right post. This arrangement is called ryouorido
両折戸. Folding doors are usually attached by pivot hinges *jikuzuri
軸吊. The side of the post that has the hinges is called tsurimoto 吊元. |
