Also called kanmuridai 冠台 or kanmurijoku 冠卓.

1 A light shelf of unusual design originally used as a storage place for the headdress eboshi 鳥帽子, worn by a noblemen. Later it was used for incense and the water jar used to make tea at a tea ceremony. In sukiya style rooms *sukiya-zukuri 数寄屋造 it was one type of decorative shelf used as a temporary storage place for extra tea utensils.

2 An alcove in a drawing room fitted with decorative, split-level shelves *chigaidana 違い棚, and cabinets with sliding doors *jibukuro 地袋.
