      kamagami _. The tutelary deity of the hearth or cooking range *kamado 
      , and by extension of the kitchen. Found in parts of Touhoku k, especially 
      Miyagi, Iwate, and Fukushima prefecture. A mask of his features made of 
      wood or occasionally of clay, was often affixed to a beam *hari 
      ΐ, or to the freestanding post *dokuritsubashira 
      Ζ§, closest to the kamado at the rear of the earthfloored area *doma 
      yΤ, in farmhouses in Miyagi prefecture. Also called *kamaotoko 
      j (cauldron male).  |
