kaku-zukuri　角造

1　A generic term for structural members that are square in cross section. Examples are found on the steps of many small shrines and the grid *dodai 土台, on which most 1-bay shrine buildings *ikkensha-zukuri 一間社造, are supported. 2　The upper-most horizontal member *kasagi 笠木, of a shrine gate *torii 鳥居.
