Purfled work. Lit. basket carving. A type of decorative wood carving used on beam projections *kibana 木鼻, from the Momoyama to the mid-Edo period. The inner part of the beam was completely carved out like an empty basket, and the outside was very finely carved in the shapes of flowers and foliage.
