Also called *hashira-ishi 柱石. Lit. shoe or boot stone. The foundations stone that form the base on which posts or pillars are set. A tenon mortise joint *hozo ほぞ and *hozoana ほぞ穴, is used to secure the pillar to the stone base. | ||||||
