1　The process of working on timber to create the desired structural element. See *kirikumi 切組. 2　Traditionally used in garden terminology to refer to shaping and pruning. In volume one of the *TSUKIYAMA TEIZOUEN 築山庭造伝 (1829), is a section entitled Kizukuri no koto, translated as "On the Pruning of Trees".
