kenkyou bijutsu　顕教美術

The art of Exoteric Buddhism. Generic term referring to any Buddhist art except for Esoteric Buddhism *mikkyou bijutsu 密教美術 in Japan. It includes depictions of the stories of the Buddha *Shaka 釈迦 and his associates, art based on the HOKEKYOU 法華経 and KEGONKYOU 華厳経, art of the Pure Land faith *Joudokyou bijutsu 浄土教美術 and art related to Zen Buddhism *zenshuu bijutsu 禅宗美術.
