|  Also sometimes read kashouza. A lotus-leaf, kayou Χt dais for a Buddhist image *daiza 
δΐ, made in the form of down-turned lotus leaves forming a round mound with up-turned 
edges. The kayouza is generally used for images of *ten 
V (heavenly beings), such as *Daikokuten 
εV, *Bonten V, *Taishakuten 
ιίV, *Benzaiten ΩΛV and *Kichijouten 
gΛV. This type of base was brought to Japan with Esoteric Buddhism mikkyou §³ 
in the 9c. The Kamakura images of Kichijouten and Zennishi Douji PδVtΆq from Sekkeiji 
αζό in Kouchi prefecture, by the sculptor Tankei Xc (ca 1225) have fine examples 
of this pedestal .  |
